Malachite production now mainly comes from The Republic of Congo, Zambia and Namibia, and is a green Copper carbonate hydroxide mineral. Copper actually makes up more than half of its mineral composition. This is why it can be toxic to humans when inhaled. It was actually one of the first ores to produce Copper. However this isn’t the case anymore as it is now only found in small quantities, making Malachite much more valuable.
Malachite can be found in a few areas of the world, one of these being Russia where a large deposit was found and very quickly mined in large quantities for gemstone production in the 1800’s, resulting in a now lacking supply.
Small supplies can also be found as close to the U.K. as France, and was originally found in Israel and Egypt. Other places Malachite can be found more scarcely include Arizona and Australia!
